PROJECTS
Project Name: Bobi St. Peter's Church of Uganda
Aim: Roofing the multi-purpose Church building.
Estimate Budget: Ugshs16.6m - £5500
The Background of the Church
St. Peters Church of Uganda is in Bobi, West Acoli District. It's about 16 Kilometres south of Gulu, off Lira Road, along Gulu Kampala Road. The Church building project started 30 years ago. The original foundation was laid in 1975 by late Archbishop of Uganda, Rwanda and Boga Zaire, The Right Reverend Janani Luwum. That was a difficult time and the building project came to a halt because of the financial and political crisis that engulfed the Country and eventually lead to the Martyr of Archbishop Janani Luwum in 197
The People of Bobi.
The local people, Christians, and the entire community were devastated by the Martyr of their outstanding Christian model in the paradigm of Archbishop Janani Luwum. However, the church building project continued despite the financial difficulties and political instability. The local people raised a substantial amount of money for the foundation building and succeeded in raising up the walls. By January 1985 the walls were completed, unfortunately by March 1986 the NRM liberation war stirred up more instability in the region and the situation never improved. It went from bad to worse, and for the last 21 years the people of Bobi have been seriously affected by the conflicts between the NRM and Lord Resistance Army LRA. As the result of this conflict, the local people were forced to leave their natural habitats, flee and since then, have been scowling in
Internally Displaced People(IDPs). In Bobi, there about 15,000 people living in the camp.
The Church Building Project
The main purpose of the church is for Christian worship. However, following the crisis of the 1990s, with subsequent events of IDPs in Bobi parish, the District Church Committee (DCC) with the advice of the local community have decided that the current Church project must continue.
With the completed walls, the building must be adopted to meet the current needs of its members and for the local people. Hence the Church should become a multi-purpose building and aim to:
1. Maintain its original aim for Christian worship
2. Use it for Social and educational events
2:1 For community Centre
2:2 Conference Centre for Youth/Women training
2:3 HIV/AIDS advice Centre
2:4 Advocacy
The Financial Assistance Needed for Completing the Roof
The wall of the church was completed about 10 years ago. And due to lack of sufficient funds, the building contractor had to stop abruptly. For us in Bobi, it has been immensely difficult to pick up again with the building project.
We are worried and concerned that the completed walls are under constant damage by rain and other atmospheric effects. Our desire is to complete the project, preserve the walls and the whole Church building. In order to achieve this goal, we need to raise a substantial amount of money to help us put up the roof.
What You Can Do
1. Pray and contribute substantial amount of money to support us in our noble project in putting the roof on St Peter's Church.
2. Tell your friends our story and share our immediate financial needs.
3. Feel free to ask us questions that might help us to keep you informed about our spiritual and physical needs.
We hope that you will prayerfully join us to pray to the Almighty God to bless Bobi St. Peter's Church of Uganda.
